چکیده

This paper describes the motivation behind the development of, and the features included in, a pure Java Geographic Information System (GIS) tool for geospatial data analysis and visualization. The use of existing GISs is often limited by issues such as platform-dependence, cost, and inability to support time-varying and/or 3-dimensional data. With the GIS Tool (GIST), we seek to combine traditional GIS features with additional features, such as animating data, extracting slices of data from three-dimensional data sets, and computing and plotting the results of mathematical functions. As a result, GIST will be portable, powerful, and useful for many different types of applications that use geospatial data – such as the analysis of multimedia model, air quality model and emissions inventory data. GIST will have the flexibility to be deployed as both a desktop application for powerful interactive analysis, and as an applet to facilitate information dissemination over the Web. Basic features include setting and changing map projections, adding and deleting layers, and probing. More advanced features are also implemented such as probing attributes, thematic mapping, query building and execution. Future directions such as animation and formulas are described.

Enhancement of Oracle‘s Indexing Capabilities through GiST-implemented Access Methods

Indexing is one of the most important tool for efficiency enhancement, available in DMBS today. The necessity of speeding up queries in very large database systems is unquestioned. The use of new-fashioned technologies and applications such as Multimedia, E-Commerce or Geographic Information Systems in combination with commercial database systems show the shortness of current indexing mechanism...

Performance Impact of Streaming Doppler Radar Data on a Geospatial Visualization System

A geospatial visualization tool that is capable of visualizing weather data in conjunction with the terrain and object data typical of GIS visualization tools provides an important advancement in the study severe weather formation by providing a tool for weather scientists to study of the impact of land topography and human changes. In particular, unlike the plains region, tornados in the South...

An Integrated GIS-AnnAGNPS Modeling Interface for Non-Point Source Pollution Assessment

AnnAGNPS (Annualized AGricultural Non-point Source), a continuous simulation and distributed pollution model, is widely applied in evaluating non-point source pollution and watershed management practices. However, the complexity of required input data and modeling procedure keep it from being an efficient modeling tool. An integrated GIS interface was developed to facilitate organizing and prep...

Mapgets: A Tool for Visualizing and Querying Geographic Information

Although geographic applications vary widely, their user interfaces have many requirements in common because of the spatial component of their data. Geographic data is not standard data, and appropriate tools are required (i) for editing (i.e., displaying and modifying) and (ii) for querying it. In this paper, we rstly study the major aspects of visualizing and querying geographic information w...

A Framework for Supporting the Class of Space Partitioning Trees

Emerging database applications require the use of new indexing structures beyond B-trees and R-trees. Examples are the k-D tree, the trie, the quadtree, and their variants. They are often proposed as supporting structures in data mining, GIS, and CAD/CAM applications. A common feature of all these indexes is that they recursively divide the space into partitions. A new extensible index structur...
